In the wake of Samsung’s recent unveiling of its Galaxy Ring, Honor, a Chinese electronics manufacturer, is also diving into the realm of smart accessories with its own iteration of a smart ring, according to CEO George Zhao.

Zhao revealed Honor’s plans for the smart ring during an interview with CNBC at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. While specific details about the product remain scarce, Zhao emphasized that it aligns with Honor’s broader focus on health-related technology.

Following its separation from Huawei in 2020 due to U.S. sanctions, Honor has been aggressively expanding its product lineup beyond smartphones, particularly targeting the premium market segment to compete with industry giants like Apple and Samsung. This expansion includes ventures into wearables such as smartwatches, which also prioritize health monitoring features.

Introducing a smart ring would further diversify Honor’s product portfolio, potentially integrating seamlessly with its existing health app ecosystem, similar to Samsung’s strategy.

Zhao highlighted the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in enhancing health insights for users, envisioning AI-powered applications that analyze user habits and health data to offer personalized training programs and professional suggestions. At MWC, Honor has showcased AI technology on its smartphones, demonstrating features like eye-tracking for improved user interaction and functionality.
